Designed in 1963 by Ferdinand ‘Butzi’ Porsche. The name Carrera comes from a victory in the Carrera Panamericana class in 1953. Carrera stands for ‘Race’ in Spanish. In 1967 the Targa ‘Stop Gap’ convertible was introduced. One of the typical features of the car is the rear spoiler, called ‘Duck Tail’. The first Porsche Carrera delivered 130 hp produced by a 6-cylinder flat air-cooled boxer engine.
